Tony Bloom, Chairman, Brighton & Hove Albion
As a fan of Brighton & Hove Albion, I grew up watching Alan Mullery's Albion side of the late 1970s, when my grandfather Harry Bloom was vice chairman. Those were unforgettable days, when it seemed that the success would never end. That was when I first felt that feeling of excitement on a Saturday morning, when the Albion were at home. Alan guided us to promotion to the old Second Division, and after a near miss, promotion to the top flight of English football. It was the most successful period in the club's long history. Some of the most iconic names ever to play for the club – Peter Ward, Mark Lawrenson and Brian Horton to name but three - all flourished under his management. I often think back to those days, and remember how proud the family was of the club, and what was achieved under Alan's spell as manager. He is undoubtedly a legend at this club, in the truest sense of the word. I am delighted to welcome him to the Amex and I hope he has a fabulous evening.
Roy Hodgson, England manager
Alan Mullery has had a fantastic career. He was a really, really good player, not least for England, and a wonderful servant to the game. He also had a very good spell as manager with Brighton and I still remember those games against Crystal Palace which were suddenly being flagged up as derbies to rival the likes of Spurs against Arsenal. I'm really pleased for Alan he's getting this recognition tonight, he certainly deserves it.
Sir Alex Ferguson, Manager, Manchester United
Well Alan, I know this is going to be a fantastic night for you at your old club Brighton. You had a great career as a footballer. I remember playing against you once - I think you're about a day older than me, or something like that! I've always admired you, always enjoyed your company. Congratulations, it's been a great career. Looking forward to seeing you again soon.
